Welcome to Moreton Marine, creators of beautiful woodwork

both on board your boat and in your home.

Since September 2005 our team of traditionally trained shipwrights have been operating from Cowes working on all aspects of woodwork for boats, from full refits, to replacement teak decks or replacement planking.  Household projects have also been numerous and varied, as can be seen below, and on the following pages.

This year, to bring ourselves up to date we feel it is necessary to acknowledge the impact our industry has on the environment, and we have therefore joined the 10:10 initiative which aims to cut businesses energy use by 10% over the coming year.

Our location in waterside premises in the old Samuel White's Yard, West Cowes, is allowing us to continue to take on even more exciting and challenging projects, with our team of both experienced and apprentice joiners and shipwrights.  We have a range of skills covering traditional shipwrighting, joinery and cabinetmaking, as well as a good working knowledge of composites.

Our large workshop enables us to take on any joinery projects on site.  We have a sheltered pontoon next to the workshop for any boatwork that's possible on the water, and a 60 ton boat hoist next door for any hull work.  We have boat storage alongside the workshop, as well as a 10 ft x 10 ft door to enable us to get smaller boats inside.

The Team:

Since 2005 we have expanded from Patrick Moreton working as a single shipwright doing freelance projects, to a fully equipped workshop with 5 staff. Our team is made up of traditionally trained shipwrights and joiners, ranging from Mark with 25 years experience since doing his apprenticeship with Groves & Gutteridge in Cowes, to an apprentice who left Medina High School last Summer and has now started his apprenticeship with us, with a study element at Southampton Maritime College.

Patrick came to boatbuilding as a second career, after gaining a degree from Plymouth University in Marine Studies and qualifying as a Ship Broker in London. Having spent a year at IBTC Boatbuilding College in Lowestoft in 2000, he moved overseas and has gained experience in Bermuda, South Africa, Antigua and Trinidad, working on projects ranging from the restoration of the Moreton’s own 35’ Robb Lion, Twilight, to the J-Class newbuild yacht, Ranger.
